As we look ahead to next week, there are a couple of silver linings.

AUSTIN, Texas — It was quite the scorcher in Austin on Sunday!

Camp Mabry topped out at 100 degrees, which marked the 31st triple-digit day of 2024. More importantly, it broke a heat record for the day.

The previous record was 99 degrees set back in 1953. Camp Mabry also had its 2,000th triple-digit day since record keeping began. What's more, the Austin airport tied a daily heat record with its actual high of 99 degrees. This record was set in 1953 and also tied in 2005.

Looking for a silver lining to the record heat just one week before astronomical fall kicks off, we are still well off the pace of 2023, when we had 78 triple-digit days up to this point.

As we look ahead to next week, there are a couple more silver linings.

First, there is a slight storm chance of around 10% forecast for Monday, mainly in the peak afternoon daytime heating hours. If the storms reach your location, this should allow the air to be briefly cooled, which could limit eventual high temperatures from reaching forecast highs, which are in the upper 90s.

Additionally, while we do not have any real rain chances during the workweek, we are tracking just upper 90s for highs. Though that would put us above our average high of 91, it still will feel a smidgen cooler than what was experienced Sunday.
