AUSTIN, Texas — Apart from the cooler temperatures on Tuesday, one step outside noted the windy conditions as well.
Gusts across areas of the Hill Country exceeded 40 mph at times, while the majority of the area recorded wind gusts over 35 mph.
Because of this, we have had a rise in pollen on Tuesday. This may be causing issues for those susceptible to Texas allergies this fall.
Comparatively, the pollen count on Monday was far lower.
While the big spike on Tuesday did not show cedar pollen, it's possible we will have to anticipate cedar earlier this year, due to an earlier freeze date in late October/early November.
When strong cold fronts move through Central Texas earlier in the fall as opposed to the winter, the north and west flow will bring pollen in from the Texas Hill Country, where most of the fall elm and cedar reside.
Due to the breezy conditions through Tuesday night, the pollen forecast for trees is high again for Wednesday.
Wednesday will not be overall as windy, but gusts of 15 mph or more are possible.
