CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas -- Storage shed displaced, trees toppled, roof collapsed and lawn furniture tossed all over the back yard -- that's what a family in Caldwell County saw when the sun came up Wednesday morning.
The family's home sits between Lockhart and Luling in Caldwell County.
As rain and thunder swept through Central Texas in the early morning hours of March 28, a Tornado Warning was issued for eastern Caldwell County until 5:15 a.m.
KVUE meteorologist Erika Lopez said representatives with the National Weather Service are investigating whether strong winds turned into a tornado in that area.
Storm damage in Central Texas after March storm
"I’ve lived here 15 years and have never experienced anything like this," a family member told KVUE's Nicole Cross.
The homeowner said that at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, he got an alert on his cellphone about that Tornado Warning. He grabbed his two sons and tried to escape out of the back door but couldn't because the back porch's roof collapsed, blocking the doorway. The family then went out the front door of their mobile home and said they could barely get to their vehicle because of how strongly the wind was blowing.
The father told KVUE he drove into Luling, called the police and was told the storm had passed over their area. The family returned home later to find the damage. Fortunately, the family and his pets who were in the back yard during the storm are all okay.
