The heat ramps up through the weekend, but another late-season front brings back cooler and wetter weather early next week.

AUSTIN, Texas — What a wacky weather year it's been so far, and it's not going anywhere through at least the rest of July. This strange weather has kept us seasonably cool through most of the month and our lawns green with plenty of rain.

In the short-term, we actually ramp up the heat through the weekend with only small rain chances, but another late-season front will bring the return of rainy and cooler weather by early next week.

Until then, we contend with just small daily rain chances. Friday through Sunday will all feature just 10% isolated shower and storm chances. This will be more sea-breeze-type activity, so rain chances will favor areas southeast of Austin.

Outside of small rain chances, it will be hot and humid with afternoon highs reaching the low to mid-90s. By Sunday and Monday, we're actually looking at afternoon highs near average for this time of the year. We will also have hazy conditions and reduced air quality over the weekend due to Saharan dust.

The changes start early next week with another late-season front. Ahead of the front, Monday afternoon still looks toasty. The front should be nearing Central Texas Monday night into Tuesday, so by Tuesday, we're looking at a pretty widespread coverage of showers and storms and highs in the upper 80s.

As has been the case with the last few fronts, we're expecting it to lose steam and stall nearby. This will continue rain chances at least into Wednesday of next week.

Rainfall totals between a half-inch and an inch-and-a-half are now expected over the next seven days as a very uncommon wet July rolls on.
