Heavy rains cause chaos in Central Texas

Thursday's heavy rains brought flooding to a number of roadways.

AUSTIN, Texas — Mother nature left her mark across Central Texas as heavy rain left many roads submerged in water and at least one home was hit by lightning.

Multiple fire crews, including Volente, Travis County, and Austin Fire Department responded to a house fire off FM 2769 near Cypress Creek Park which was believed to be caused by lightning.

"This was an apparent lightning strike. We had a very large bolt of lightning at the same time this ignited," said Volente battalion chief Brad Landi.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, but Landi says there is substantial damage.

The rain from Thursday's storm covered some roadways. Flooding blocked drivers on several streets and crews on Steck Avenue were busy removing debris where it flooded.

There were also reports of several crashes including one at 183 and I-35 Thursday afternoon. Deborah Jones from Austin said she was cautious while driving.

As Jones simply put it, "drive slow and watch the other guy."
