AUSTIN, Texas — We all know it has been hot this summer, but what if we told you it's currently trending as one of the hottest on record in Austin?
May and June of this year have already gone down in the history books as the hottest on record at the Camp Mabry climate site. With only a few days left in the month, it's safe to say July will also be the hottest on record.
As of July 25, our average high temperature over the course of the month is 103.9 degrees. The current record for warmest July average high temperature on record is 102.1 degrees set back in 2011.
With that in mind, we thought we'd take a look at how summer 2022 is stacking up to 2011. So far, this year is outpacing summer 2011 when it comes to average temperatures. Average temperatures factor in both the daily afternoon highs and overnight lows.
June 2022 just edged out the 2011's average monthly temperature of 87.1 with an average of 87.7. Both years soared past the normal average monthly temperature of 83 degrees.
There are only a few more days left in the month of July, but confidence is high it will remain warmer than July 2011.The current average temperature for this month is 90.7 as of July 25. The average monthly temperature back in July 2011 was 89.7.
Many people remember the infamous summer of 2011 for its extreme heat. August 2011 was not only the warmest August but the hottest month ever on record at Camp Mabry. The average high temperature was a toasty 104.8 degrees. The average overall temperature was 91.7. Historically, August is when we experience our warmest conditions of the entire year.
What should we expect for next month? Current long-range forecast models have above-average temperatures continuing at least through the beginning of August.
