Winter weather delays fuel, COVID-19 vaccine shipments in Central Texas

According to Todd Dixon with Empire Petroleum, poor road conditions are preventing carriers from delivering fuel.

AUSTIN, Texas — The winter weather is delaying fuel carriers from getting to some Austin gas stations.

One station at North US 183 and Anderson Mill Road was out of gas on Saturday night.

According to Todd Dixon with Empire Petroleum, poor road conditions are preventing carriers from delivering fuel.

Dixon said the delay should only be four to five days and delivery should resume next week when weather conditions improve. Gas stations in Central Texas may run out of gas if they didn't order before Thursday, but it's unknown how many stations are affected.

The weather is also delaying the arrival of COVID-19 vaccine shipments in Texas.

According to Chief W. Nim Kidd of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, vaccines that are normally set to arrive on Sunday or Monday will not likely not arrive until Wednesday or Thursday.

Texas will receive more than 400,000 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine next week, with Austin Public Health again receiving 12,000 doses.
