AUSTIN, Texas — The dog days of summer are just around the corner as we track the next heatwave moving in.
This is going to begin a long stretch of triple-digit temperatures with "feels like" temperatures hot enough for heat advisories to be issued.
A ridge of high pressure will strengthen across the southwest of the U.S. late this week. This will limit rain chances for the second half of the week and this weekend. Sinking air below a ridge of high pressure is associated with little to no cloud cover and lots of heat!
As a southwestern wind returns to the area, slightly drier air moves in. This will make it easier for temperatures to climb into triple-digit territory. Record-breaking heat is looking likely early next week.
Once we get past Thursday, Mother Nature gives us no break from this dangerous heat in the seven-day forecast. This means we will all have to be ready to practice heat safety. Check on your loved ones and neighbors to make sure their AC is working properly. Make sure your furry friends and any outdoor pets or livestock have plenty of fresh, cool water throughout the day with several shaded areas to find some relief from the peak heat of the day. And of course ... hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE!
