Cloudy and cool Thanksgiving for Central Texas

Turkey trotters should plan to bundle up for Thanksgiving morning!

AUSTIN, Texas — We hope everyone is enjoying the week of Thanksgiving, and fortunately we're not looking ahead to any major travel headaches locally. However, we are tracking an upper-level disturbance that could bring a chance for some light showers to parts of the Lone Star State on Thanksgiving Day.

For any turkey trotters, Thanksgiving morning will be cloudy and cold with temperatures in the low to mid-40s. Forecast models still hint at the possibility for isolated light showers for the back half of the morning, favoring areas along and east of I-35. Most will stay dry for Thanksgiving.

Through the day, clouds will hang tight until the tail end of the afternoon. This will keep temperatures quite chilly with afternoon highs only in the mid to upper 50s.

The vast majority of Central Texas will stay dry, but there is a 20 percent chance for light showers or sprinkles. Again, this is not going to be all day rain, but you may need to run the windshield wipers a few times if you'll be driving anywhere.

The air in the lower part of the atmosphere will be fairly dry. This means that much of the precipitation will evaporate prior to reaching the ground. So don't be surprised if you get a quick nuisance sprinkle, but it won't be a big deal.

There will be a slightly higher shower chance to our south. So if you're travelling to San Antonio, Corpus Christi, or Houston you could also run into a few light showers, but even for these spots there won't be any heavy rain.

After Thanksgiving, Black Friday will bring sunshine by the afternoon and will be dry with highs in the mid-60s. Our next cold front arrives Sunday morning with the chance for some scattered showers but no widespread rain or storm risk. Behind the front, temperatures will be even cooler for early next week.

The KVUE Weather Team will continue to monitor this developing forecast.
