AUSTIN, Texas — Eeyore’s Birthday Party started in 1963 when a group of college students caught a case of spring fever. The students were studying A.A. Milne, the author of ‘Winnie The Pooh’, so they decided their excuse for skipping school would be to throw a birthday party for Eeyore.
The first event was a success, so they threw another party the next year, and again the year after. The third year turned out to be a massive event.
Now, the event is celebrating its 56th year, while keeping alive the same spirit and feel of the original events. It’s all about people getting together to enjoy springtime and the weather in Austin.

The vendors of the event are all local Austin non-profits trying to get funds for their organizations.
“The biggest thing about Eeyore’s Birthday Party that makes it different form every other festival here in Austin is that Eeyore’s Birthday Party is a completely, totally, non-profit event,” said Scott Sexton, trustee of the friend's of the forest foundation.
The event is happening Saturday, April 27th from 11 a.m. until sundown at Pease District Park.
