AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things going on in the Austin area! From the kickoff of one of the city's biggest festivals to a basketball showdown between the Big 12's biggest rivals, there's no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.
Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.
While Amplify Austin Day isn't technically an event you can attend, it is one you can participate in! The annual fundraiser, hosted by I Live Here I Give Here is a 24-hour push to support more than 700 Central Texas nonprofits.
The event started 6 p.m. Wednesday and ends 6 p.m. Thursday.
It's time. The airport has issued a travel alert, the city is getting ready to close a bunch of roads downtown – South by Southwest (SXSW) is here.
A majority of SXSW events – but not all of them – require either a badge or a wristband. But there's still plenty to do and see, even if you aren't credentialed! For all the latest coverage of the two-week festival, visit KVUE.com/SXSW.
The Red River Rivalry hits the court this weekend when the Texas Longhorns take on the Oklahoma Sooners at Moody Center, located on Robert Dedman Drive. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.
Free local parties during SXSW
As mentioned, SXSW kicks off this weekend and a lot of events require credentials. But there are also plenty that don't – often with bonus hometown flair.
Local venues will be hosting unofficial parties over the next two weeks, with many featuring artists from right here in Central Texas. Here's a look at just two of the events scheduled for Sunday.
