33rd Annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot: Schedule, parking and more

The Turkey Trot is the largest 5-mile run in Texas.

AUSTIN, Texas — Turkeys, get ready to trot! The 33rd Annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot is right around the corner.

The rain-or-shine 5-mile run, which benefits Caritas of Austin, will be held on Thanksgiving starting at 9:30 a.m. at The Long Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to the main event, there will also be a 1-mile walk and a Stepping Stone School Kids K event.

Registration is still open. Participants can pick up their packets from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Texas Honda, located at 3400 Steck Ave. Packets will also be available for pickup from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Long Center on the day of the run. Participants are welcome to pick up packets for family members and friends.

Participants can park for free at the following locations:

  • Silicon Labs (400 W. Cesar Chavez)
  • Stage Garage N (300 San Antonio St.)
  • City Hall Garage (301 W. Second St., entrance on Guadalupe)
  • Palmer Event Center Garage (900 Barton Springs Road)
  • Bat Bridge Lot (305 S. Congress Ave.)
  • One Texas Center (505 Barton Springs Road)

Participants are asked not to park in the neighborhoods south of the river. Rideshare drop-offs should be conducted in front of One Texas Center on South First Street, just south of Barton Springs Road.

Here's a look at the schedule of events on Thanksgiving:

  • 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. – registration/packet Pickup (Note: T-shirts are not guaranteed if you pick up on Thanksgiving morning, though organizers will be ordering extras for future pick up)
  • 8:45 a.m. – Stepping Stone School Kids K
  • 9:25 a.m. – wheelchair start
  • 9:30 a.m. – timed 5-mile
  • 9:35 a.m. – untimed 5-mile
  • 9:50 a.m. – 1-mile walk/run
  • 10:45 a.m. – trophy pickup begins

The ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot started in 1991 with just a handful of volunteers and 600 participants. It has since grown to be the largest 5-mile run in Texas, with more than 700 volunteers and over 20,000 participants.
