Float Fest 2024 canceled just days before event at COTA

Float Fest has had a complicated last few years.

AUSTIN, Texas — It looks like Float Fest won't return this year after all.

Back in March, Float Fest announced it would be moving off the water to the Germania Insurance Amphitheater at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, with this year's event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7. But according to Ticketmaster, the event has now been canceled just days before it was set to happen.

A post on Float Fest's Ticketmaster page reads "Event Canceled," followed by, "Unfortunately the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event."

Ticketmaster said it will issue refunds to ticketholders' original method of payment "as soon as funds are received from the Event Organizer." Ticketholders should expect to see those refunds on their accounts within 14 to 21 days.

Float Fest's troubled history

Years ago, Float Fest was held in the San Marcos area, but it's had a complicated last few years. After a permitting issue, Float Fest moved to Gonzales in 2019. But that same year, the event was canceled

It was canceled again in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, and plans were never released for the event in 2021. Then in July 2022, Float Fest finally held its first – and, as it turns out, last – event in Gonzales.

No Float Fest was held in 2023, and this year's return was expected to mark a change in the event's format.

In previous years, attendees were able to float on a river while they listened to live music. This year, while music fans weren't going to be able to float during the event, Float Fest said they would get a discount at Texas State Tubes on the San Marcos River.

Lil Wayne, The Kid LAROI, Jessie Murph, Anella Herim, Preston Wayne and more were expected to perform at this year's event.
