First day of SXSW brings thousands to Downtown Austin

Around 300,000 people are expected to come to the city over the course of the event.

AUSTIN, Texas — More than 300,0000 people are expected to journey to Austin over the course of the next nine days for South By Southwest (SXSW).

Many of the attendees of this year's event are visitors who've traveled internationally, as evidenced by the activity seen throughout the day Friday at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).

Guillermo Ensinck, from Argentina, made his way downtown for SXSW on its first day.

"We want to know about innovation, AI, new stuff, ya know, cool things," Ensinck said, citing his motivation for attending the event.

Brazilians Iuri Campos and Maria Isabel are trying to take everything in.

“We are excited here to check out the contents because we work in an innovation hub in Rio de Janeiro, so we are here to gather trends [from] here to bring to our content creation there," Campos said.

"The challenge is the fear of missing out. It is hard to decide what you have to [do], because there are so many things," Isabel said. "[It] is so inspiring."
