LONDON, UK — Austin-based festival South by Southwest (SXSW) has announced it will launch a new week-long conference in London in June 2025.
In a media release shared Wednesday, SXSW said the new conference will have an emphasis on European creative endeavors and will introduce visual arts and fashion components unique to the London event.
SXSW's London conference is not the festival's first expansion. SXSW Sydney was launched in 2023 and SXSW Edu is held in Austin each year just before the Interactive, Film and Music conferences, which have been running since 2011.
SXSW has also launched two festivals that it has since discontinued. SXSW Eco, which focused on innovation in climate change solutions and sustainability tech, and SXSW V2V, a conference that focused on startups and entrepreneurs.
The latest European expansion will take place in Shoreditch, East London, at various venues across the city.
Attendees can expect to experience live performances, keynote speakers and a series of interactive elements dispersed throughout the area.
"I am delighted to welcome SXSW to London for the first time ever – confirming our place at the heart of Europe's tech and creative sectors and as a global capital of culture," London Mayor Sadiq Khan said.
Shoreditch itself is known as a cultural center for nightlife, street art and a diverse food scene.
For Central Texans interested in visiting the city, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport offers a nonstop, 9-hour long flight to London.
Event badges for the conference will be available starting in October, and more information is set to be released at a later date.
SXSW, an Austin staple, will soon be celebrated "across the pond."
