AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things going on in the Austin area! From classic films to a nostalgic concert, there's no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.
Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.
If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, this show "Straight Up" might have "The Right Stuff." It'll be an '80s extravaganza at Germania Insurance Amphitheater this Friday, as New Kids on the Block takes the stage with special guests Paula Abdula and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Bring your best dance moves.

Hide from the heat at the movies
When it's this hot out, there are few things as satisfying as disappearing into the cool darkness of a movie theater. But this is Austin: we do movies differently. This weekend, there are plenty of unique experiences planned.
First, if you like watching films in unconventional settings, Mozart's Coffee will be screening "Sharknado" on a movie screen right on the water Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Another offbeat option? The Austin Public Library will host two movie screenings Sunday – "Legally Blonde" at 1 p.m. and "Best in Show" at 3 p.m. – at its Central location.
If you're a fan of the classics – both films and theaters – the Paramount might be the place for you. This weekend's Summer Classic Film Series offerings include:
- "The Graduate" – Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
- "Double Indemnity" and "Fargo" – Friday double-feature at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
- "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" – Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
- "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" presented by Robert Rodriguez – Saturday at 7 p.m.
- "Viva Las Vegas" and "A Hard Day's Night" – Sunday double-feature at 2 p.m. and 3:50 p.m.

Finally, if you just want to catch something cozy, AFS Cinema will be screening the Studio Ghibli classic "Spirited Away" on Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
For the second weekend in a row, Austin FC fans have the opportunity to catch their team at home! Austin FC will take on Seattle Sounders FC at Q2 Stadium on Saturday.
Right now, Austin FC is No. 9 in the Western Conference, with eight wins, six draws and eight losses for the season.
