AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things going on in the Austin area! From fireworks shows to film screenings, there's no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.

Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.

Fourth of July celebrations

Of course, this weekend kicks off a little early with the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, and there are plenty of events scheduled to help Central Texans celebrate.

From the city of Austin's 47th annual celebration – featuring a concert by the Austin Symphony Orchestra – to smaller celebrations in nearby cities like Round Rock, San Marcos, Marble Falls and more, there's a lot of festive fun planned this Fourth of July.

Paramount Summer Classic Film Series

The Paramount Theatre's Summer Classic Film Series is going on all season, but if you're looking for an option to beat the heat this holiday weekend, the theatre has a stacked lineup planned.

First, take a trip back to the '80s with a energetic double-feature of "Dirty Dancing" and "Footloose" on Friday. Then catch a family-friendly showing of "The Muppet Movie," followed by a (decidedly less family-friendly) 40th anniversary screening of "Purple Rain." And wrap up the weekend with some ocean-heavy flicks: "Jaws" and a Hyperreal Film Club showing of "Point Break."

When: "Dirty Dancing" at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by "Footloose" at 9 p.m.; "The Muppet Movie" at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and "Purple Rain" at 7 p.m.; "Jaws" at 3 p.m. Sunday and "Point Break" at 7 p.m.

Where: Paramount Theatre, located at 713 Congress Ave.
