AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things going on in the Austin area! From Pride events to a physical media celebration, there's no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.
Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.
Celebrate Pride at these events
Did you know Austin celebrates Pride in August? Now you do! While the Austin Pride Parade & Festival isn't until next weekend, there are a couple of Pride events happening over the next few days.
South Congress Hotel will host its "Everybody Save Love" pre-Pride pool party on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets include access to the hotel's rooftop pool, and the event will include specialty pool-themed cocktails and drag performances by Vylette Ward, Monica M. Davenport and Juliana, plus a DJ set and on-site aesthetic services. Proceeds from the event benefit Kind Clinic.
Also on Saturday, KUTX and The Breakfast Boogie will host the "Pride Family Rainbow Party" at The Far Out Lounge from 10 a.m. to noon (doors at 9:30 a.m.). The family-friendly event will feature an interactive live music set, a Pride Puppets craft station, popsicles, Drag Storytime with Brigitte Bandit and more. Tickets are available online.
Show your love of physical media
If you're a physical media collector, Mediapalooza should be right up your alley. The celebration of physical sound and video will be held at the Austin Public Library's Windsor Park Branch from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Attendees can bring tapes and CDs to trade, convert media to a different format, make a mix tape, take an "analog video art selfie" and more.
The library said all ages are welcome, but the activities will be geared more toward teens and adults.
Take in some theater
There are multiple ways to get a little culture this weekend.
Summer Stock Austin – a nonprofit educational theatre company celebrating 20 years – will be continuing its production of "Disney's The Little Mermaid" and kicking off its production of "Guys & Dolls."
There's also still time to catch "Legally Blonde: The Musical" at the Zilker Hillside Theater. And "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical" is still underway at the ZACH Theatre.
