Things to do in the Austin area this weekend: Baseball, balloons and more

Here's a look at some of the events going on in the Austin area this weekend.

AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things going on in the Austin area! From baseball to hot air balloons, there's no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.

Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.

Round Rock Express Home Opener

It's time to play ball! MLB opening day is Thursday, but the Round Rock Express will play their home opener against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Friday. The Express and the Space Cowboys will then face off two more times, on Saturday and Sunday. 

On Friday, the Express will be giving away ballcaps to the first 2,000 fans and there will be post-game fireworks. Then on Saturday, the first 2,000 fans will receive an Express jersey and attendees can expect a postgame drone show. Finally, on Sunday, there will be free inflatables and train rides for children outside Dell Diamond before the game, and kids can run the bases after.

When: First pitch at 7:15 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. First pitch at 1:05 p.m. Sunday

Where: Dell Diamond, located at 3400 E. Palm Valley Blvd. in Round Rock

Balloons Over Horseshoe Bay

If you're looking for something unique to do this weekend, the Horseshoe Bay Resort will host its 10th Annual Balloons Over Horseshoe Bay event, featuring hot air balloon ascensions, live music, wine tastings, a helicopter Easter egg drop and more.

The kickoff party is Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Then gates open bright and early at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, with festivities until 10 a.m. The fun picks back up again with more in store from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Passes for Saturday start at $32.84, plus a $22.34 parking pass.

Where: Horseshoe Bay Resort Ranch, located at 26801 State Highway 71 in Horseshoe Bay

Urban Cultural Fest

Previously known as the Urban Music Fest, live music is still a major part of this event, but it now also features "other cultural makers such as ethnic dance, ethnic food, ethnic clothing, ethnic visual arts [and] spoken word." Friday night will be "A Tribute to Catfish Station," featuring performances by Kyle Turner, Don Diego and more. Then Doug E. Fresh will headline a stacked lineup on Saturday.

Easter egg hunts

On your mark, get set ... hunt! Easter is this Sunday, but there are several free egg hunts scheduled through Central Texas starting as early as Thursday. Check out our list of just some of the hunts kiddos and adults alike can take part in this holiday weekend.
