Working for the Weekend: Red River Free Week, Dinos and Dragons and more

The circus is in town, the Red River Cultural District is bringing bands together for its annual Free Week and so much more in Austin this weekend.

AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is almost here, and if you’re looking for something to do, KVUE is here to help. Here’s a list of some fun things you can take part in:

Red River Cultural District Free Week

The Red River Cultural District has their Free Week Thursday through Saturday. It's the local nonprofit's annual admission-free, multi-genre winter music festival where 100 bands are set to perform across nine music venues. The event started in 2003 with one venue and has grown into so much more. It's an opportunity for the community to check out these local musicians and local venues and show support during the slower winter months.

Dino and Dragon Stroll

The Dino and Dragon Stroll is a new touring event where people can walk through and get up close to life-like and life-size dinosaurs and dragons. Some of the creatures stand over 28 feet tall and are produced with advanced animatronic and sound technology that brings them to life. The event also teams up with a local food bank or pantry as part of their "Stomp Out Hunger" initiative. The event is happening Saturday and Sunday at the Austin Convention Center. Tickets are $17.99 each and must be purchased online and in advance.

Cirque Italia

Cirque Italia returns to Austin with their Water Circus Gold performance. The show features custom design elements, including a stage that has 35,000 gallons of water for performers to dazzle audiences. The tent will be set up at Barton Creek Square and will be in town until Jan. 17. Prices vary depending on your seats, and you can purchase them in advance online or at the door.
