Buda approves zoning change for new H-E-B at corner of I-35 and Main Street

The new store would be at least 115,000 square feet and have a drive-thru restaurant, pharmacy and garden center.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas grocery store giant H-E-B is one step closer to building another new store south of Austin.

On Tuesday night, the Buda City Council approved a zoning change so H-E-B can build a location near the northwest corner of Interstate 35 and Main Street.

According to city documents, the new store would be at least 115,000 square feet and have a drive-thru restaurant, pharmacy and garden center.

The company plans to build over an old landfill, so crews would have to remove 20 feet of contaminated soil and then refill it before they build.

The build-out could begin in 2026.

It comes as H-E-B is already planning other expansions in the Austin area, including a new store in southeast Austin at East William Cannon Drive and McKinney Falls Parkway. The company also has plans for new stores in Manor, Georgetown and San Marcos.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, H-E-B opened its new 145,000-square-foot, multi-level location on South Congress Avenue after nearly two years of progress.

Located northeast of the city, a 127,000-square-foot spot also opened earlier this month in Pflugerville.

H-E-B recently finished new additions to its Tech Ridge store at Parmer Lane and I-35, with other store upgrades coming to Bastrop and Kyle.
