AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texans have seen many businesses shutting down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. KVUE wants to help "Keep Austin Local" by highlighting small businesses that might need a little help.
KVUE stopped by Stars Café to learn about its history and food options.
The diner, also known as Starseeds, opened in 1966 as a 24-hour diner attached to the Stars Motel. The owner, Shannon Sedwick, said she remembers spending time at Stars Café in 1968. She said it was the "cool place to sit and drink coffee all night with artistic types, restaurant people and UT students working on their dissertations."

Sedwick said the pandemic hit Stars Café hard. The diner closed its doors in March 2020 and has reduced staff and hours. No longer open 24 hours, Stars Café is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to keep costs down.
Stars Café is known for its diner food including great biscuits, gravy, breakfast specials, coffee, mimosas, sandwiches and burgers. The diner is visited by regulars that stop by daily.
"We deliberately keep the prices affordable and keep the favorite foods on the menu, so people can enjoy what Austin has always been famous for, accessible to all levels of people and served with love," Sedwick said.
You can find Stars Café at 3101 N. Interstate 35 frontage road in Austin or online here.
