Keep Austin Local: Succulent Native

Add some greenery to your life while supporting local businesses.

AUSTIN, Texas — KVUE wants to help “Keep Austin Local” by highlighting local businesses, events and people that make Austin special.

On Wednesday, KVUE stopped by Succulent Native, a plant shop that started as a cart in 2012. The first brick-and-mortar shop opened in 2016 and was downtown. Now, you can find Succulent Native on North Lamar Boulevard.

You can buy plants and pots from the shop, and they will plant it for you. They also have planting parties, and every Sunday offer beginner classes to teach succulent arrangement. If you’re looking to bring more plants into your home, Succulent Native offers a house call service where their experts can help design your place so your plants can survive.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the shop to close for two months. The owner, Shannon Donaldson, told KVUE she didn’t stop working though. She reworked her website and kept her business going with free deliveries. Every day, she would get to work, make arrangements and deliver plants until they slowly began to reopen.
