LULING, Texas — The biggest Buc-ee's in the world is set to open in just a few weeks.
Back in April 2022, the Austin Business Journal first reported that Buc-ee's Ltd. was looking to build in Luling, the location of the brand's first-ever family travel center. The news was confirmed a few months later, and Buc-ee's broke ground on the new Luling location in November of the same year.
Now, the Buc-ee's behemoth is set to open to the public on Monday, June 10 – just in time for city's best-known celebration, the Luling Watermelon Thump. The Associated Press (AP) reports doors will open to the public at 6 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for noon.
The new Buc-ee's Luling is located at 10070 Interstate 10 and will replace the city's current Buc-ee's store, built in 2003. The new location occupies more than 75,000 square feet and will offer 120 fueling stations and thousands of food and drink options, from homemade fudge and jerky to candy and, of course, Beaver Nuggets.
"We are thrilled to open the doors to the world's largest Buc-ee's travel center right here in the great state of Texas," Stan Beard, Buc-ee's director of Real Estate and Development, said. "It's particularly exciting, considering this is the Buc-ee's that started it all, so we are really looking forward to celebrating with the incredible people of Luling."
Once Buc-ee's Luling opens, the brand will operate 50 stores across Texas and the South. There are currently 35 Buc-ee's stores in Texas; four in Alabama; two each in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee; and one each in Colorado, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina. The company also broke ground on its first Virginia and Mississippi locations earlier this year, according to the AP.
Buc-ee's Luling is expected to employ at least 200 team members, with starting pay beginning well above minimum wage. Employees receive full benefits, a 6% matching 401K and three weeks of paid vacation.
