Swedish Hill set to expand business with second Central Texas location

The historic Austin deli and bakery recently announced its plans to add a new spot in the Westlake neighborhood.

AUSTIN, Texas — Coffee and pastry lovers will soon have a new spot to spend their time in Central Texas.

On May 15, Swedish Hill bakery and deli posted to social media, sharing its plans to open a second location in Austin's Westlake neighborhood.

The shop will open at 3662 Bee Cave Road, Suite 4-A, previously the location of European-inspired restaurant Blue Dahlia Bistro. Swedish Hill has not yet announced an opening date, but customers can expect updates going forward.

Swedish Hill's main bakery building – located on West Sixth Street – has been closed since late 2023 amid the ongoing Sixth&Blanco project. The development is currently in its second phase, with plans to build a new and improved Swedish Hill inside of a hotel by the end of 2026.

With the Sixth&Blanco construction underway, the café has temporarily opened under a new name, Little Swedish, at 1128 W. Sixth St.  There, customers can order a variety of menu items, including the mortadella & burrata sandwich, egg and cheese breakfast taco, Nutella morning bun, rotini pasta salad and more.

Most recently, Little Swedish also completed a new patio, filled with outdoor seating and umbrellas for customers looking to spend time in the sun.

The bakery itself has a long history. For almost 50 years, it has served Austinities in a variety of locations, including 14th and Waller streets and eventually West Sixth Street.

The spot was previously known as Sweetish Hill but was renamed by MML Hospitality approximately five years ago.

Despite a series of changes to its physical location, the bakery remains a well-known part of Austin's past and present.
