Who's hiring? Pflugerville Solar Project and the Housing Authority

RigUp is offering on-the-job solar training to work at the Pflugerville Solar Project.

AUSTIN, Texas — Every week KVUE highlights employers who are hiring during the pandemic. This week we spoke with RigUp and the Housing Authority of the City of Austin.

"Part of the site will be across the road but the site itself will be over 950 acres," said RigUp Energy Managing Director Leslie Elliott.

The Pflugerville Solar Project will be a utility-scale solar farm, east of Pflugerville. Elliot said the project is expected to be completed in January 2021. The solar project is expected to power 25,000 homes in Austin.

Recurrent Energy is spearheading this project but RigUp is doing the hiring. The company is hiring 350 employees to help turn the over 950 acres into a giant renewable energy source.

"A lot of the positions that we're going to be filling are going to be general labor," said Elliot.

Elliot said they are offering on-the-job training, intro to solar classes, and certifications in specialized roles such as equipment operators or tooling operators.
