Nearly $1M contract approved for Typhoon Texas modifications, intersection improvements

The project will move the water park’s entrance north to align with Town Center Drive.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — A construction company has been awarded a nearly $1 million contract for upcoming modifications and improvements at Typhoon Texas in Pflugerville.

On Wednesday, the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. (PCDC) said it awarded Cox Construction a $956,625.90 contract, which the Pflugerville City Council approved at its Jan. 14 meeting.

The project will move the water park’s entrance north to align with Town Center Drive, according to a release.

The contract also covers new signalization, deceleration lanes and sidewalks along FM 685.

“Improvements to the PCDC property are needed to provide safer and easier access for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and also set the stage for a new year-round restaurant to be introduced in 2021 by Typhoon Texas,” said Amy Madison, PCDC executive director, in the release. “The park continues to provide jobs for young adults, recreation for the region, and generates sales tax on-site and in area retail establishments.”

According to the agreement, Cox Construction must complete the modifications within 150 calendar days after the first day of construction.

The project is expected to be finished before the park reopens in May, Madison said.

The construction contact comes as Pflugerville gets closer to getting a new 120-acre multimillion-dollar development, called NorthPointe. A portion of that development is right next to Typhoon Texas and the other is next to Hendrickson High School, near the football field.
