Police identify victim, suspect in homicide at southeast Austin apartment complex

The murder was the second at the Array Apartments on Burton Drive in less than a week.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified both the victim and the suspect in a deadly stabbing at a southeast Austin apartment complex earlier this week.

According to APD, officers were called out to the Array Apartments on Burton Drive at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24. The caller stated that someone had been stabbed.

When they arrived, police found a man in the parking lot with injuries consistent with a stab wound. They began performing life-saving measures, but the man – later identified as 23-year-old Javier Antonio Navarro Quesada – was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. According to APD, the investigation revealed an altercation that was the result of a vehicle that had been stolen. Alex Trevino, 34, was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail. He has been charged with murder.

This was the second homicide investigation at the Array Apartments in less than a week after 39-year-old Jose Ramon Lizarraga Boca Negra was killed on July 18. APD said the apartment complex is in a "very well-known" high crime area, but they don't believe the incidents are connected.

Anyone with information about Wednesday's incident is asked to contact the APD Homicide Unit Tip Line at 512-974-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.

The incident is being investigated as Austin's 36th homicide of 2024.
