AUSTIN, Texas — Court documents reveal what led up to an Austin teen being charged for allegedly planning an attack against an elementary school.
The 17-year-old was arrested recently after the FBI and Austin police were alerted to "concerning" messages sent by an Instagram user.
According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, the teen and a friend were "planning something big." Messages obtained by the FBI showed the two were planning an active shooter event at Graham Elementary School in northeast Austin.
The affidavit states that the teen drew a map of the elementary school to help plan their attack. The teen also allegedly said they were going to kill their parents and little brother before the attack.
During an interview with authorities, the teen allegedly admitted to sending the messages on their Instagram account and planning the attack with their friend. They also showed authorities a journal on their phone.
"I've always had a sort of hatred for humanity ... I have such a hatred for people, everyone, every race, every gender, everything," the journal read. "I barely care about my own life, what makes you think I'll spare any of you?"
Messages on a different social media platform also showed texts about how using a good gun on small targets could amount to more than 20 kills. The teen also allegedly planned on attacking the school in the morning or during recess, the affidavit states.
Police arrested the teen and charged them with terroristic threat. Police also said the teen's parents are cooperating with the investigation.
Following the investigation, Austin ISD added more patrols to Graham Elementary as a precaution.
