AUSTIN, Texas — Two men have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in South Austin in late September.
The U.S. Marshals said that 24-year-old Dekatur Dalon Richey, a.k.a. "DK," and 22-year-old Moses Wangobe Mohinga, a.k.a. "Big Youngster," were wanted for a homicide that occurred on Sept. 26 in the 2300 block of Greenfield Parkway. Multiple shots were reported, with a victim possibly shot.
When Austin Police Department (APD) officers arrived on the scene, they found a man – later identified as 40-year-old Keith Bedford – with multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were performed, but Bedford was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
APD conducted a homicide investigation and identified Richey and Mohinga as suspects. Warrants for their arrests were obtained in October.
At that time, the APD requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals' Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to find and arrest Richey and Mohinga, who were both last known to live in Austin.
On Oct. 27, the task force arrested Mohinga at an apartment complex on Ridgepoint Drive. He was in possession of narcotics and a gun.
On Nov. 15, the task force learned that Richey was at an apartment complex on Metric Boulevard. Members of the task force surrounded the residence where Richey was barricaded inside an apartment.
Task force requested tactical assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety's SWAT team. That team arrived on the scene with hostage negotiators and specialized equipment as well as uniformed state troopers, Texas Rangers and officers from the Criminal Investigations Unit.
After a 3-hour standoff, Richey surrendered to authorities.
Both Richey and Mohinga have been booked into the Travis County Jail, where they are awaiting further judicial proceedings.
