Police identify motorcyclist killed in North Austin crash; driver charged with DWI

AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested for DWI following a crash that killed a motorcyclist on Burnet Road earlier this week.

The Austin Police Department (APD) said at 9:11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, officers responded to a crash involving three vehicles in the 7500 block of Burnet Road, near Richcreek Road. An initial crash occurred between an SUV and a motorcycle, followed by another crash between a pickup truck and the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist – later identified as 21-year-old Brayan Cuellar – was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said the drivers of the SUV and the pickup truck remained on scene. The driver of the truck, 37-year-old Andrew Lycan, was arrested for DWI.

APD said it is investigating this as Austin's 68th fatal crash of the year, resulting in 73 deaths. On Sept. 29, 2023, the city had seen the same number of fatal crashes, resulting in 71 deaths.
