Man holding knife shot by APD following stabbing spree that left 1 dead, 2 hurt in North Austin

Police said three children were inside the home at the time of the stabbing that left a woman dead and two others injured.

AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: Austin police revealed new details about this incident on Jan. 26. The original story continues below.

A knife-wielding man is in the hospital after a deadly stabbing spree at a home in North Austin.

Police said it started around 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a home on Uttimer Lane near East Parmer Lane.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), a man called police saying that he had been stabbed in the stomach and was bleeding a lot. He also told APD that the suspect was still inside the home with a woman.

When officers arrived, one of the victims was standing with a group of people outside of the home. As officers gathered information, they heard screams inside the house and forced entry. That's when they discovered a man with a knife holding a woman who appeared to have been stabbed.

Officers shot the man and were able to escort the woman and three children out of the house safely. As APD continued to search the house, they found another woman who had been stabbed to death.

"I would like to highlight the heroic actions of our officers, who acted swiftly and likely prevented further loss of life," Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson said.

Police said the other two stab victims were taken to the hospital and are currently stable in an unknown condition. The suspect was also taken to the hospital and is currently stable. APD said investigators are not sure of the relationship between the suspect and the three victims.

Bodycam footage of the incident was captured, according to Henderson. The officers will now be placed on administrative duty while the department launches two investigations into the shooting, consistent with department policy.
