One man has been arrested and deputies are searching for a second suspect after several people were hurt during a shooting on Sunday in southeast Austin.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) said the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. at an outdoor market on FM 812 near U.S. 183.
According to the sheriff's office, several people who knew each other were involved in an altercation in the parking lot. That's when shots rang out, leaving one person with life-threatening injuries. Two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.
In an update on Tuesday, TCSO said Felipe Saucedo-Rodriguez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. He is in custody as the Travis County Jail.
Deputies are still searching for a second suspect, 30-year-old Luis Felipe Saucedo-Rojas. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact TCSO at 512-854-1444 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477.
"Especially on the weekends when the flea market's open, that's where it gets kind of tough because if it's not two or three wrecks during that time, something's wrong," Sylvia Rodriguez, a bartender at the VFW post near the market, said.
Next door to the VFW post is the 812 Market, where, over the weekend, three people were shot in the parking lot.
"Our bar went on lockdown yesterday [Sunday] about 8 p.m., 9 p.m. They shut down everything because – so, supposedly, the guy was on the loose," Rodriguez said.
"They do have dances there, so I don't know if they stay open to 12 a.m. or 1 a.m. That I don't know. But I'm assuming if people are coming out, they're [out] late," Rodriguez said.
TCSO said this is an active investigation. As far as any information on calls to the market in the past, the sheriff's office said KVUE would need to submit an open records request, which we did.
Rodriguez said she wants to see changes happen immediately.
"They need more attention, more security, any security guards," Rodriguez said.
She's worried if nothing goes unchanged, things like this could happen more often.
TCSO said several people were detained following the shooting.
