Court docs reveal what led to shooting at southeast Austin market as second gunman still at large

Three people were hurt in the shooting on June 30, including one person who suffered life-threatening injuries.

AUSTIN, Texas — As the search for a second suspect continues, court documents detail what led up to a shooting at a southeast Austin market.

Three people were hurt in the shooting on June 30 at the 812 Outdoor Market along FM 812.

Deputies with the Travis County Sheriff's Office responded to the market after multiple gunshots were heard in the parking lot. After interviewing several witnesses, deputies identified the suspect as 55-year-old Felipe Saucedo-Rodriguez.

An affidavit obtained by KVUE alleges Saucedo-Rodriguez was involved in an altercation between two families inside the flea market, possibly over someone's ex-girlfriend.

A witness claimed Saucedo-Rodriguez was very angry and punched a victim in the face before security broke up the fight. Witnesses also said there is a history of feuds between the two families that dates back to when they both resided in Mexico.

According to the affidavit, Saucedo-Rodriguez was spotted walking to his black Toyota pickup truck to retrieve a pistol, before allegedly waiting in the parking lot to confront the victims. Police said that's when Saucedo-Rodriguez opened fire, hitting three people.

One person sustained life-threatening injuries after being shot in the head and torso, while the two others sustained gunshots to the leg and wrist.

Saucedo-Rodriguez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remains in Travis County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Meanwhile, deputies are still searching for a second suspect, identified as 30-year-old Luis Felipe Saucedo-Rojas. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 512-854-1444 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.

Security concerns at the market

Sylvia Rodriguez, a bartender at the VFW post near the market, said she wants to see changes after the shooting.

"The flea market is always overpacked and it is either fights, or you see the sheriff, or you see the ambulance coming out of there," Rodriguez said. "Especially on the weekends … that's where it gets kind of tough because if it's not two or three wrecks during that time, something's wrong."

KVUE requested records from the sheriff's office on past incidents at the flea market but has not yet heard back.

Rodriguez said she wants to see changes happen immediately. She worries more shootings could happen if things go unchanged.

"They need more attention, more security, any security guards," Rodriguez said.
