LOCKHART, Texas — The Lockhart Police Department has arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with a deadly shooting on Friday, Aug. 16 – the city's first homicide of the year.
Lockhart police said at approximately 3 a.m., officers received an initial call about gunfire near Trinity and Rosewood streets. Police and medics then responded to an additional call near South Colorado Street and East Prairie Street, where they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Carlos Sanchez, was taken to a Kyle hospital, where he died roughly an hour after the initial call.
At around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, police arrested a juvenile suspect on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with Sanchez's death. The suspect was located at a home on East Market and Carver streets and initially attempted to flee, but was ultimately arrested without incident.
The U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted with the arrest.
Police said four adult suspects were also arrested on Aug. 21 for allegedly harboring a fugitive.
The arrests come after an investigation led by the Lockhart Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. The investigation is ongoing.
