APD releases new details after 17-year-old shot to death in southeast Austin

Austin police say Alexander Jaimes was shot and killed last week following a conflict.

New details were released on Wednesday after a teenager was shot and killed last week in southeast Austin.

Austin police say 17-year-old Alexander Jaimes died from a gunshot wound following an altercation with a female suspect along Deer Run Drive and Blue Dawn Trail.

Detectives say Jaimes and the suspect were in a verbal conflict before it turned physical and escalated into the suspect shooting Jaimes. He was then taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police say the suspect and Jaimes knew each other and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Police say the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and that no arrests have been made.

Initially, police said the incident was a homicide, before clarifying it as a "death investigation." But Austin police said in the update that Jaimes' death is now Austin's 63rd homicide of 2023.
