AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The above video is from KVUE's original report on the shooting, which aired on Nov. 22, 2023.
New details were released on Wednesday after a teenager was shot and killed last week in southeast Austin.
Austin police say 17-year-old Alexander Jaimes died from a gunshot wound following an altercation with a female suspect along Deer Run Drive and Blue Dawn Trail.
Detectives say Jaimes and the suspect were in a verbal conflict before it turned physical and escalated into the suspect shooting Jaimes. He was then taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police say the suspect and Jaimes knew each other and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Police say the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and that no arrests have been made.
Initially, police said the incident was a homicide, before clarifying it as a "death investigation." But Austin police said in the update that Jaimes' death is now Austin's 63rd homicide of 2023.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact APD's homicide unit at 512-974-TIPS. You can also submit a tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting its website or calling 512-472-8477.
