Free associate degrees offered through new partnership between Austin Community College, Round Rock ISD

The partnership will allow students to complete two degrees at once.

AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texas high schoolers looking to further their education could now have a more affordable option.

Last week, Round Rock ISD announced its latest partnership with Austin Community College, set to offer free associate degrees to current high school students.

The new partnership will allow the students to complete two degrees at the same time by offering classes in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, OnRamps, dual credit and ACC classes designed to meet a high schooler's "Core 42" credits.

Students who are interested in the program will be able to receive the necessary credit hours in areas of study like communication, language, philosophy and culture, and more.

"By offering free associate degrees alongside their high school diplomas, we're not only alleviating financial burdens but also empowering our students to reach higher and achieve more," Round Rock ISD superintendent Dr. Hafedh Azaiez said.

Following graduation, students will have more options to transfer to other universities or continue at ACC using previously attained credits.

Round Rock will now join a list of various other Central Texas districts to join together for ACC's program. Other 'Early College High Schools' schools include Akins, Manor and Travis, to name a few.

This isn't the first time ACC has announced higher education without charge. Earlier this year, the university said it is hoping to offer free tuition to more students with a potential new pilot program.

ACC's Board of Trustees will vote on the program on March 4 and if approved, free tuition opportunities will be open to students starting in the fall 2024 academic year.

Thanks to this new partnership, students now have the chance to receive two degrees at once.
