AUSTIN, Texas — The Rosewood-Zaragosa Clinic meant to help low-income Travis County residents is now open in East Austin.
The facility, located at 2800 Webberville Road, will offer services that include cardiology, kidney and palliative care.
“We have patients we help to support with cancer diagnosis, patients finding out about advanced kidney conditions and patients living with breathing problems," said Director of Specialty Care, Dr. Michelle Owens.
Owens said they will provide care to thousands of Travis County residents.
"The patients we are caring for are 150-200% below the poverty line, so they don't have access to your typical commercial insurers and there are not that many people in the city to provide care for them.” Dr. Owens said.
Ana Mojica has lived in Austin for more than 20 years. She is taking advantage of the services they provide, saying it's a huge help with Austin's high cost of living.
"Thank you for opening this clinic, because otherwise I would not receive the help that I needed," Mojica said.
Officials with Central Health said patients do pay a small copayment, but the majority of services and operations at the facility are covered by a partnership between Central Health and Travis County.
The clinic is taxpayer funded, with more than $20 million allocated each year to operate the facility.
Dr. Owens said they look forward to continuing providing quality care for those in need.
“To help people, it’s an amazing collaborative effort, and growing up in Austin, its really cool to be a part of such an amazing adventure," said Dr. Owens.
