BUDA, Texas — An investigation into a deadly shooting in Buda has yet to lead to any charges.

Hays County officials say they have "identified everyone involved" after a boy was found shot to death in the Shadow Creek subdivision.

The shooting led to a shelter-in-place for some Buda residents before authorities determined it was an isolated incident.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office said its investigation is ongoing as it works with the district attorney to file the appropriate charges.

What happened?

Deputies were called to the Shadow Creek subdivision just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, after reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they said they found a boy dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation into the shooting led to a shelter-in-place for residents within a 1-mile radius.

Janel Rodriguez, a neighbor outside playing with her children, heard the gunshots.

"It was very frightening. My 6-year-old ... She thought they were black cats, but when we explained to her what it was," Rodriguez said. "It really frightened her."

The next day, authorities warned residents of a heavy police presence as they continued their investigation.

Anyone with information on the shooting has been asked to contact Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-TIPS or the sheriff's office at 512-393-7814.
