ELGIN, Texas — Update: Court documents reveal what allegedly led up to the deadly shooting in Elgin.
One person is dead and another is in jail after a shooting in Elgin that authorities say appears to be a road rage incident.
The Elgin Police Department said just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance and shots fired on East U.S. 290, near County Line Road.
At the scene, officers found a man, identified as Joseph Stancyzk, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said Fabian Salas, 34, was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Police initially said two people got out of their cars and began fighting, at which time one of them allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the other. Police said it appeared the two men did not know each other.
Elgin police said Salas has been booked into the Travis County Jail. As of Wednesday afternoon, his bond has not been set.
