LIBERTY HILL, Texas — Editor's note: An updated story on the ongoing school threats across Texas can be found here. The original story continues below.
Liberty Hill ISD is the latest in a series of schools across the United States to report threats made on social media.
On Thursday, the district said they learned about an online threat where an alleged student posted about having a gun.
Students reported the threatening images to an on-campus officer, and an investigation began.
The district said these threats are not credible, and that they came from out-of-state.
Now, Liberty Hill ISD is reminding students and parents to alert others if they see or hear suspicious information. One way to do so is by visiting the district's anonymous tip website, where parents and teachers can fill out a form to address bullying, threats, safety risks and other concerns.
"We encourage our families to partner with us to remind our students that posting this type of material is considered a terroristic threat, is never considered a joke, and can have lifelong consequences," the district said.
This threat was investigated by the Liberty Hill ISD Police Department, administrators, law enforcement and the Austin Regional Intelligence Center.
A similar threat was reported Wednesday at Llano ISD, and the district increased its campus security as a result.
In North Texas, districts including Dallas ISD have also seen an increase in social media threats in recent weeks.
