4 dead, 1 hospitalized in multi-vehicle crash on SH 130 in southeast Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — Four people are dead and two others are injured after a multi-vehicle crash in southeast Austin on Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened in the 10500 block of the South State Highway 130 service road northbound, near Maha Loop Road, at around 4:15 p.m., according to Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS). It's near the location of another deadly crash that happened just over a month ago.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that the crash involving a vehicle occupied by a driver and four passengers and a Peterbilt dump truck occupied by a driver. The dump truck was traveling northbound on the access road of SH 130, and the crash occurred in the intersection.

At least one person was pinned following the crash, and CPR was attempted on three victims, ATCEMS said. All four of those victims, whom DPS confirmed were occupants of the passenger vehicle, died on the scene.

DPS said one of the occupants of the passenger vehicle was airlifted to a medical facility. ATCEMS confirmed that patient was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. ATCEMS said another patient involved in the crash refused treatment. 

Four ambulances, two commanders and two STAR Flight helicopters responded to the scene.

Drivers were told to avoid the area and to expect extended delays and closures.
