AUSTIN, Texas — A man who killed a 19-year-old during a “gun battle” at an East Austin gas station in July of last year has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
On Dec. 12, Tajaurae Jones, 21, was convicted of murder for the death of 19-year-old Ti’Jarious White.
White died after being shot at a Valero gas station at 1135 Airport Blvd. just after 9 p.m. on July 16, 2023.
White was inside the gas station as a customer when Jones entered. Jones then shot and killed White.
Jones was arrested on Aug. 4, 2023, and charged with murder. On Oct. 30, 2023, Jones was indicted for the murder charge and deadly conduct discharge of a firearm.
The jury started deliberating on Thursday and found Jones guilty on the same day.
“Our office is grateful to our dedicated staff and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable and seek justice for the victim’s family,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “We hope this outcome continues to help the victim’s family with their healing process.”
