The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide in South Austin on Monday evening.
APD said officers were called to the scene in the 6700 block of Windrift Way, near West William Cannon Drive and Menchaca Road, around 5:40 p.m. after reports of a shooting or stabbing at an apartment complex. The 911 caller indicated a victim had "penetrating trauma," APD said.
The Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS also responded to the scene. Despite life-saving measures and CPR, the victim was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m.
The APD Homicide Unit is currently interviewing a person of interest and witnesses. This is believed to have been an isolated incident, and police do not believe there is a threat to the public.
