BASTROP, Texas — A major social media company is moving halfway across the country to Texas.

X, formerly known as Twitter, is shifting its headquarters from San Francisco to Bastrop, Texas.

According to the Austin Business Journal, the update comes after a recent court filing, though it's unclear exactly where X owner Elon Musk will build the new spot.

The billionaire already houses several of his businesses in Bastrop, including The Boring Bodega. This warehouse convenience store is equipped with a playground and lounge at the Hyperloop Plaza on 865 FM 1209.

X currently hosts employees in an Austin office on Levander Loop, but real estate and workplace director Nicole Hollander said in the filing that the company will transfer these workers to the new Bastrop building.

Hollander also said the company wants to expand its workforce further.

"X plans to significantly grow its Texas footprint, including opening new offices and hiring additional X employees, following its formal headquarters change," Hollander said, according to the ABJ.

Why is Musk moving X to Texas?

Back on July 16, Musk announced his plans to bring X to Texas, searching for a space with roughly 100,000 square feet that can hold 600 or more people.

The decision came after Assembly Bill 1955 -the SAFETY Act- was passed in California, to protect LGBTQ+ students from being "outed" by their administrators.

Musk's original Tweet said, "And X HQ will move to Austin," but it appears this claim has since been updated.

The business owner has also made Texas the home base for many of his other companies, including Tesla, located in Austin, and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. in Bastrop.
