Scattered storms possible for college football gamedays across Central Texas

The Texas Longhorns game against Colorado State could be impacted by scattered showers – and it's not the only one.

AUSTIN, Texas — Summer is coming to its unofficial close and, for the most part, it wasn't as brutal as last year, with the hottest temperatures only arriving last week. But now it's time to queue up the pumpkin spice snacks and fire up the grills because college football season is upon us!

The first games are on Saturday, Aug. 31. Here's a series of gameday forecasts, for our local teams and a few of the other major teams Central Texans might be interested in.

Texas Longhorns vs. Colorado State

Let's start with the Longhorns, who will take on the Colorado State Rams. This is not only Saturday's earliest start time at 2:30 p.m., it's also the game with the highest local interest as Texas makes its SEC debut.

We're tracking highs in the mid-90s and a possible scattered storm at Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Texas State Bobcats vs. Lamar

Meanwhile in San Marcos, the Bobcats will open their season against Beaumont-based FCS foe Lamar.

There may be a scattered storm or two during tailgating, but the game itself should be dry with its 7 p.m. start time.

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Notre Dame

Although College Station isn't in the KVUE viewing area, Central Texan Aggies likely want to know what their team could be dealing with.

The Aggies are in a top 20 matchup Saturday against the Fighting Irish from Notre Dame. For this game, we're expecting similar conditions to what we'll likely see in San Marcos. There is a slight storm chance but, by and large, A&M fans should remain dry at Kyle Field.

Baylor Bears vs. Tarleton State

Finally, up in Waco, the Baylor Bears will open their season hosting FCS team Tarleton State.

Kickoff for this game is the same as the game down in Aggieland, but there is a slightly better chance of an isolated storm or two during the early goings of the game. We expect similar temperatures to what we're expecting in College Station and San Marcos.

In sum, Saturday's games shouldn't be washouts, but fans should keep their eyes to the sky and prepare to make any changes should storms develop. Stick with KVUE for all the latest on your gameday forecasts.

The seven-day outlook is below.

Muggy and warm to start the weekend. Rain chances becoming higher for Labor Day.
