AUSTIN, Texas — Junior wide receiver Adonai Mitchell is expected to become the latest Texas Longhorn to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, according a report from Horns 247 published Monday.
During his time at the University of Texas, Mitchell – a transfer from Georgia – played in all 14 games and started 13 for the Longhorns, catching 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns, according to Horns 247. Those touchdowns included a 1-yard TD reception in the Longhorns' 37-31 College Football Playoff loss to Washington in the Sugar Bowl.
After winning back-to-back national championships at Georgia in 2021 and 2022, Mitchell decided to make the move back to Texas to be closer to his 2-year-old daughter. According to Horns 247, he entered the transfer portal right after Georgia's national championship victory over TCU and chose Texas without ever visiting.
ESPN's Mel Kiper reports that Mitchell is the No. 7 wide receiver in the nation.
He joins a long list of Longhorns who have recently announced their intentions to enter the NFL Draft. Over the weekend, tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders announced he will declare. His announcement came just a few days after running back Jonathon Brooks and defensive tackle Byron Murphy II announced their entries, and those announcements followed a declaration from wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
More Longhorns are expected to announce their future plans in the imminent future, including quarterback Quinn Ewers, who still retains a year of college eligibility.
All of the Longhorn players who have declared early are projected to be first, second or third-round selections, meaning they would hear their names called during the first two days of the NFL Draft. Senior defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat and wide receiver Jordan Whittington could also be early round selections.
The 2024 NFL Draft takes place in Detroit from April 25-27.
