AUSTIN, Texas — Nearly two months after his introduction, Jim Schlossngale has his contract.
University of Texas regents approved a multi-year deal for the baseball coach on Thursday after hiring him away from SEC rival Texas A&M.
The 7-year, $15.4 million contract will broken down into two parts. Schlossnagle will earn $1 million in each of the first two seasons before receiving a bump to $2.68 million annually over the next five, according to the Associated Press.
Schlossnagle spent three seasons with the Aggies, quickly turning the program into a national power with two College World Series appearances. He now hopes to turn around a historic Texas program that has six national titles, but none since 2005.
Schlossnagel replaced David Pierce, who was fired after eight seasons. Pierce led Texas to three Big 12 titles, but only three trips to the College World Series. Pierce was hired earlier this month by Texas State as an assistant head coach. He'll also oversee activities of the baseball program on and off the field.
How does Schlossnagel's contract compare?
The Austin American-Statesman reported Schlossnagle had a base salary of $1.35 million for the 2024 season, with $50,000 increases each season, capped at $1.6 million in 2029.
Schlossnagle's contract at A&M ranked sixth-highest among SEC baseball coaches' salaries for 2024. He'll now be the tenth-highest paid coach in the conference. His salary bump will then make him the highest-paid coach in the SEC.
The American-Statesman also confirmed Schlossnagle's assistant coaches will earn a base salary of $400,000. Former MLB star and new Texas hitting instructor Troy Tulowitzki will make $200,000.
