Several roads closed in Downtown Austin for Austin Marathon on Sunday

The marathon is scheduled for Sunday, April 25, starting at 7 a.m.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin drivers are going to want to avoid the downtown area this weekend. Starting Friday, there will be road closures because of the Austin Marathon on Sunday.

By 9 a.m. Friday morning, Ninth Street, Congress Avenue and Brazos Street will be partially closed. Those streets will be completely closed by 8 p.m. Friday. 

Even more roads are closing Saturday, including Cesar Chavez and Fourth, Eleventh, Brazo and Eighth streets. You can view a breakdown of the closures here

The marathon has also published a traffic guide to help drivers plan their trips. It includes the half marathon course map, a pace chart and a zone map. View the guide here

The marathon said drivers should assume they can't cross the course. The Austin Police Department will only allow crossings at major intersections and only when there are no runners present. 

For northbound and southbound traffic, the MoPac Expressway, Lamar Boulevard and Interstate 35 will be unobstructed. For eastbound and westbound travel, Ben White Boulevard, Highway 290 and FM 2222/Koenig Lane will be unobstructed. Forty-Fifth Street will also be open westbound between Red River and Guadalupe streets.

The marathon is scheduled for Sunday, April 25, starting at 7 a.m.
