Hail and strong winds are the main threats. An isolated tornado cannot be completely ruled out.

AUSTIN, Texas — Parts of Central Texas saw large hail on Friday, and Saturday will now bring the chance for additional strong to severe storms. Much of the KVUE area is now under the "slight" – level 2 of 5 – severe weather risk for Saturday afternoon and evening, with a section of Mason County now under the "enhanced" – 3 out of 5 – risk.

The main threats will be large hail and strong winds. An isolated tornado cannot be completely ruled out, but at this time it appears the greatest tornado concern will northwest of our KVUE area.

The storm threat Saturday evening is in addition to the serious heat we have in the forecast. An Excessive Heat Warning in Central Texas continues through Sunday.

There is also a low risk for localized flooding through Saturday evening across the Hill Country. The heaviest storms may be capable of producing a quick 1 to 3 inches of rainfall.

This will be another situation where not everybody will see storms. We expect isolated to scattered storm development Saturday afternoon and evening, with the highest coverage of storms favoring Mason, Llano and Burnet counties.

However, even the Austin area and the metro is now included in the "slight" risk, and severe storms cannot be ruled out later on Saturday.
